“Its the best medicine” Paul plays with his mouth and head

“When you’re playing a battle royale against 99 other players and you know that you’ve won with just your mouth and your head movement, it’s such a good feeling.”

Meet Paul, who’s playing and winning thanks to years of ongoing support from our specialist therapists. Paul has very limited movement due to a spinal injury, and uses an assistive technology gaming setup that combines head control, mouth control and carefully-placed switches next to parts of his body.

“SpecialEffect has just completely changed my life, and it’s really the best sort of medicine,” he said. “It’s something that helps you just completely forget about everything and all the pains of the day seem to go away.”

It’s been a privilege to support Paul over the years, and as with everyone we help it’s a service provided without charge and for as long as it’s needed – promises we simply couldn’t keep without YOUR generous help. Support us today through One Special Day and together we can continue to bring joy and inclusion into lives around the world.

Huge thanks to Paul, and our grateful thanks to The Science Museum Group and for their kind permission to use this amazing video which they created for the Sound and Vision exhibition at The Science and Media Museum in Bradford, UK.
