Worldwide games industry raises £600k for One Special Day

We’re indebted to the many games industry companies from across the world who came together for One Special Day to support our life-changing work. Donations from the event on and around the weekend of 4-6 October currently stand at over £600,000, and are derived from sales income of mobile and PC games, plus a variety of innovative company-driven fundraising challenges.

Our Founder and CEO Dr Mick Donegan said, “We’re seeing an ever-increasing demand for our services, which are all provided without charge. The support the event receives from the games industry is absolutely vital in making sure we can continue to reach every disabled person that needs our help. Without One Special Day we simply couldn’t bring a better quality of life to so many people across the world, and we’d like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone involved in the event – industry, gamers and donors.”

The donations from One Special Day are a significant boost towards the £2m+ currently required annually by the charity to continue their work in fostering connection, joy, and independence through specialist multidisciplinary assessments, research, collaboration and resources.

In addition to donating game revenue, this year’s One Special Day also featured an extensive Steam Sale with over 90 titles and a Humble Bundle promotion. A range of other supporting activities and studio events also contributed over £100k of fundraising to the campaign. These included auctions, game sales, quizzes, golf days, football matches and challenge events.

One Special Day is an annual event and has raised over £3 million in total over eight years of campaigns.
