28 September 2018 is One Special Day. It’s a day that brings the video games industry together to help gamers’ charity SpecialEffect level the playing field for gamers with disabilities.
Partners are invited to donate a day’s UK or global revenue with the aim of raising £500,000 to help them bring magic gaming moments to people of all ages who can only watch everyone else have all the fun.
In 2017, over 50 games industry companies took part, including household names like EA, SEGA, Supercell and Rovio. The event attracted international attention and resulted in extensive positive publicity for the industry and the companies involved.
The support of the partners – and their customers – will help the thousands of disabled people every year who ask for the charity’s assistance. Their teams of therapists and technical specialists travel across the UK for face-to-face assessments and loans of customised technology to help bring joy into the lives of people with disabilities and in turn, the charity pass on what they learn to help hardware and software developers all over the world make their technology easier to use for as many people as possible.

“NaturalMotion is delighted to join forces again with SpecialEffect for One Special Day. Games have a transformative power – they enable us to connect with others while also delivering entertainment experiences that allow our imaginations to run wild. Whether you want to collect and race the most coveted supercars in the world or challenge thousands of troops to battle, there is a game out there for everyone. SpecialEffect’s work to make games accessible to as many people as possible is truly an inspiration and what being a good gamer is all about.” – Julian Widdows, VP, NaturalMotion
“Make Real are delighted to take part in One Special Day once more, for the 2018 campaign, to help raise funds towards the unique, worthwhile support and care provided to enable all gamers to access and play the games they want, no matter their abilities. We’ll be donating the revenue proceeds from our hit VR game title “Loco Dojo” once again for the One Special Day 2018 date, expected to be even higher this year with the global uptake of 100s of VR Arcades offering the experience!” – Sam Watts, Director of Immersive Technologies, Make Real
“Firefly Studios have long admired SpecialEffect and we will continue to do everything we can to support this amazing charity. That’s why on September 28th we will be donating revenue from all sales of the Stronghold Crusader games for One Special Day! With each new event and initiative more people hear about SpecialEffect and more gamers reach out for help. Fundraising is important but so is awareness, with so many out there just one email away from better mental health and (more importantly) kicking ass at FIFA, Forza or Halo! This is a charity that literally transforms people’s lives and deserves your support any way you can offer it.” – Nick Tannahill, Marketing Director, Firefly Studios
“Miniclip are long term admirers of SpecialEffect and Dr Mick’s important work and we are delighted to take part in One Special Day 2018 with the UK profits from 8 Ball Pool.” – Rob Small, CEO, Miniclip

Thank you, SpecialEffect, for creating better experiences and memories for the disabled and their families.” – Kathee Chimowitz, Chief Revenue Officer, Boombit
“We at Dirtybit are very glad to take part in One Special Day by donating revenue from Fun Run 3 on the 28th of September, to help SpecialEffect keep creating magic moments through games, helping disabled gamers having fun playing games with their friends and family.” – Anette Ståløy, VP of Business & Marketing, Dirtybit
Rovio are big supporters of SpecialEffect and their mission to help disabled gamers and are delighted to support One Special Day again this year with the UK profits from Angry Birds 2 on One Special Day.
